Is Costa Rica a safe country?

The short answer is yes, it is. The capital city, San Jose is the same like big cities anywhere around the world. It is completely safe during the daytime, and with a little bit of common sense you can avoid any problems in the night. Think about Los Angeles or New York; there are some areas better not to go. The same is true for San Jose. Ask questions. The more information you have the better.

Don't walk alone in dark alleys; don't carry too much money in cash. If it is possible let somebody know where you are going, friends, or the bell man in the hotel. One thing though: the poeople in Costa Rica are not violent. And they know, how much they depend on turism.
